Right-wing influencers are promoting an app that allegedly enables users to earn cryptocurrency by reporting undocumented immigrants. This app, named ICERAID, is described as a “GovFi protocol” by its creator Jason Meyers. It has received endorsements from figures like Laura Loomer, Jacob Engels, and Matt Gaetz.
On Gaetz’s show on One America News Network, he likened the app to a digital version of a citizen’s arrest, encouraging people to earn digital rewards by capturing photos of criminal activities and uploading them via their devices.
ICERAID’s platform is touted as a governmental finance initiative on the Solana blockchain, rewarding users for photos of alleged criminal activity. Despite its ambitious goals, in function, it essentially promotes a meme coin, which has already attracted skeptics.
The app’s launch was fraught with delays and skepticism. Early adopters, unsure about their investments, sought refunds. Meanwhile, Meyers claimed potential ties with government entities for data sharing. However, tangible results from these claims seem scarce. The app has seen only a handful of reports, with most being dismissed.
Financial questions arise, especially concerning Meyers’ past issues with fund misappropriation. While there is interest, whether the app delivers on its promises of monetary reward remains unclear. Reports suggest that the incentive tied to the app’s token is negligible, undermining its viability.
Despite this, ICERAID remains connected with influential figures in politics, indicating the app’s appeal is leveraged more on political affiliations rather than its practical utility.
