Marvel’s newest trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps offers a deeper insight into the lives of the Fantastic Four and the storyline of the film, which marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We are treated to our first glimpse of Reed Richards extending like rubber and Julia Garner’s debut as Silver Surfer, Galactus’s Cosmic Power-endowed Herald. There’s also an intimate revelation for the team members: Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), the Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), the Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and the Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Sue and Reed are expecting a child.
If the MCU follows the Marvel Comics storyline, this child is likely to be Franklin Richards, the older of Reed and Sue’s two children, who eventually develops reality-altering abilities. Although it was recently revised, Franklin’s powers were originally attributed to his mutant gene. With the X-Men entering the scene, it remains to be seen whether the MCU retains this aspect of his backstory or omits it.
We are also curious about how deeply Fantastic Four will explore Reed Richards’s journey into fatherhood. The identity of John Malkovich’s character in the film remains a mystery, but there’s increasing speculation that he might portray someone with the last name Richards.
Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to premiere in theaters on July 25.
