RetroTINK, a company known for its hardware solutions allowing retro consoles to be enjoyed on modern displays, has announced a temporary halt on US shipments. Despite its intention to pre-pay tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, challenges persist, as highlighted by Time Extension.
Mike Chi of RetroTINK cited the suspension is due to a "lack of guidance on how tariffs will be collected starting May 2nd," as mentioned on Bluesky. He expressed concern over potential delays and package losses, emphasizing that shipments will resume once the company can reliably pre-pay tariffs for their customers.
In a website announcement, RetroTINK noted that government procedures for processing US shipments remain unclear. The deadline for non-expedited orders is April 23rd, while expedited orders must be placed by April 28th for US delivery.
Chi remains optimistic, believing the issue "will be resolved eventually," though the timeline and resolution remain uncertain.
The tariff situation stems from an announcement on April 2nd by President Trump, initially setting broad tariffs and subsequently reducing them to 10% for many nations shortly after implementation. However, a 145% tariff on Chinese imports remains in effect.
RetroTINK isn’t alone in these struggles; Fangamer is also experiencing difficulties. The company has postponed preorders for the Pizza Tower Collector’s Edition due to the new tariffs on Chinese manufacturing, complicating final price estimations.
