Fulcrum Defender is a defense game set on a single screen, where players utilize a crank to shield themselves from incoming threats. This concept draws inspiration from games such as Vampire Survivors.

During a livestream, Jay Ma from Subset Games shared, “I aimed to create a replayable experience that begins slow and relaxing, but gradually escalates into hectic chaos. Initially, I didn’t intend to complete this game. It started as a form of self-therapy while dealing with the challenges of long COVID over the past few years, and I wanted to prove to myself that I could still develop games in my current condition.”

Playdate Season 2 is set to launch on May 29, featuring two new games released every week for six weeks, priced at $39. This season will include the platformer Taria & Como, the adventure game Shadowgate PD, and the digging game Dig Dig Dino!. Additionally, there’s a “must-see surprise for those seeking something a little different,” according to a press release.

The first season of Playdate was launched free with the console in 2022. However, due to the gradual release of the hardware, not all players could download each game together each week as planned. This season featured 24 games, including Crankin’s Time Travel Adventure by Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi and Whitewater Wipeout by Chuhai Labs.

Earlier this week, Panic announced that over 289,000 games have been sold via its Playdate Catalog store, earning developers more than a million dollars. Additionally, a captivating podcast was released in late 2024, detailing how a private detective was hired to retrieve stolen consoles.
