Fisch Codes: Navigating Future Communication in May 2025

Fortnite’s user-generated Discovery feed is increasingly filled with AI-generated thumbnails, and Epic Games has announced that it won’t be regulating them anytime soon.

The main menu of Fortnite often serves as the first encounter for millions of players. This screen is becoming inundated with AI-created artwork, which can range from generic to questionable. Despite the community’s criticism, Epic Games intends to take a hands-off approach.

“We are not concerned about the tools you use to create your thumbnails,” stated Dan Walsh, the product management director at Epic. “Our priority is simply whether your content complies with our regulations.”

Key Points

Epic acknowledges that detecting AI content is becoming “increasingly difficult, and may soon be unenforceable.”

No measures are planned to regulate AI thumbnails, even when they may violate copyright or seem to have low quality.

Epic does not employ AI to create its own skins or assets and affirms it has no intention of doing so.

Human-Centric Approach

Saxs Persson, Executive VP, reaffirmed Epic’s belief that human creativity produces the best outcomes. “Do we feel the need to start creating Fortnite outfits using AI models? Absolutely not,” he declared.

As AI art advances rapidly, discussions around quality, originality, and ownership also intensify. Epic’s decision to allow AI-generated thumbnails in the Discovery section may influence how generative content is moderated
