Apple’s iPhone Launch Strategy: Preparing for the Foldable Revolution

Apple Removes 'Available Now' from Intelligence Page

Apple is adjusting its iPhone release schedule for next year, according to a report from The Information. The tech giant intends to launch its first foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and “Air” models, while the standard iPhone 18 is expected to be postponed until spring 2027, coinciding with the release of a follow-up to the iPhone 16E.

To accommodate a growing lineup that now features six iPhones, Apple will likely need to reorganize its releases, particularly with the anticipated launch of a slimmer model and a foldable device in 2026. The foldable iPhone is reported to adopt a book-style design rather than a clamshell, featuring a 5.7-inch display when closed and an almost 8-inch screen when opened. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that the device will have a thickness of 4.5–4.8mm when unfolded and will incorporate Face ID technology instead of Touch ID.

Additionally, the report mentions that Apple plans to introduce a new battery case for the iPhone 17 Air, as testing has shown the phone’s battery life might not meet the standards of previous iPhones. Furthermore, it’s expected that the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will feature the long-awaited under-display Face ID sensors, resulting in just a small cutout in the top-left corner for the front-facing camera.
