Baidu, the prominent Chinese technology company, has submitted a patent for an innovative system designed to utilize AI to interpret animal sounds and behaviors, translating these signals into human language.
For countless pet owners eager to understand their animals’ thoughts, this development represents a significant advancement in narrowing the communication divide between humans and animals.
The Technology
Baidu’s proposed system would gather data from animal vocalizations, body movements, and biological signals. This information would then be integrated and processed by an AI model specifically trained to recognize emotional states.
These identified emotional states could eventually be expressed in human language, enhancing “cross-species communication.”
As of now, this is merely a patent application. A spokesperson from Baidu informed the media that the translator is “still in the research stage,” while also noting the significant interest generated by the filing.

The Skepticism
However, some users on Chinese social media are doubtful. A participant on Weibo remarked, “While it sounds impressive, we need to see real-world results before placing our trust in it.”
In China, patent approvals can take anywhere from 1 to 5 years, depending on complexity. Although Baidu’s concept may be in its infancy, the discussions it has ignited are already quite prominent.
