Baidu, a leading Chinese technology company, has submitted a patent for an innovative system that aims to utilize AI to interpret animal sounds and behaviors, translating these signals into human language.
For countless pet owners eager to understand their pets’ thoughts, this could mark a significant stride towards closing the communication gap between humans and animals.
The Technology
The proposed system from Baidu would gather data on animal vocalizations, physical movements, and biological signals. This information would then be integrated and processed by an AI model designed to recognize various emotional states.
These emotional states could subsequently be translated into human language, enhancing “cross-species communication.”
As of now, this is merely a patent. A Baidu representative mentioned that the translator is “still in the research phase,” but noted that there is “a lot of interest in the filing.”

The Skepticism
However, some users on Weibo remain skeptical. One commented, “It sounds impressive, but we need to see how it performs in real-world scenarios.”
In China, patent approval can take between 1 to 5 years, depending on the complexity of the application. While Baidu’s concept may be in its early stages, the discussion it has ignited is certainly gaining momentum.
