Activision announced on Thursday that the upcoming remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 will feature skater Bam Margera. Margera was part of the original games but had not been confirmed for the remaster until now. He will be included as a secret skater, available to unlock as players progress through the game.
Having appeared in several installments of the franchise, starting with THPS 3 and continuing through to Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, Margera’s absence in the remaster initially raised eyebrows. Reports suggest that Tony Hawk himself advocated for Margera’s inclusion even after the game was nearly completed.
Roger Bagley, co-host of the skateboarding podcast The Nine Club, shared during a March livestream, “Tony reached out to Activision and said, ‘We need Bam in this game,’ but they initially said it wasn’t possible. He insisted, and they ended up flying Bam out to do the body scan and bring him back into the project.”
In a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the development of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4, Margera expressed his longtime passion for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 and humorously reminisced about missing flights due to his gaming obsession.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 is set to launch on July 11 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The remastered versions will feature online multiplayer and significant graphical enhancements. Along with familiar names like Tony Hawk and Bam Margera, new skaters such as Rayssa Leal, Chloe Covell, Jamie Foy, Zion Wright, Nyjah Huston, and Yuto Horigome will also be playable. Players can expect classic levels like Airport, Foundry, Rio, Tokyo, Canada, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, while the expansive free-skate areas of THPS 4 will be redesigned into classic, compact Pro Skater-style levels.
