In the latest update for Marvel Rivals Season 2.5, Ultron has seized Cerebro from the mutants of Krakoa, making his debut as a playable character. This addition brings along a new map and a variety of changes to the Team-Up mechanics.
“Ultron is a master strategist who offers reliable healing to his teammates,” said Creative Director Guangguang. He primarily attacks using energy beams and has the ability to fly, soaring through the skies alongside characters like Iron Man, Storm, and the Human Torch.
To accommodate this addition, the Team-Up Ability system is undergoing significant updates, which will include the introduction of six new attacks, the removal of four, and adjustments to another. Ultron notably shares a Team-Up ability with Iron Man, unleashing Uni-Beam lasers that cut through anything in their trajectory.
Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong introduced exciting new Team-Ups: Venom and Jeff the Land Shark’s “Symbiote Shenanigans” connects with allies for healing; The Punisher and Black Widow’s “Operation: Microchip” provides Widow with a piercing line-shot; Luna Snow creates ice arrows for Hawkeye that become more powerful with distance, even penetratig terrain cover; and Rocket Raccoon and Peni Parker’s “Rocket Network” enhances Peni’s Bionic Spider-Nest and drops armor packs while allowing her to empower Rocket’s Battle Rebirth Beacon to summon Cyber Webs, Spider-Drones, and Arachno-Mines—though only one beacon can be active at a time. Additionally, responding to fan feedback, Storm and Jeff now have a “Jeff-Nado” ability, reminiscent of Storm’s Team-Up with Human Torch, but featuring a water tornado instead of fire.
However, several abilities such as Luna and Jeff’s “Chilling Charisma” and Hawkeye and Black Widow’s “Allied Agents,” along with Spider-Man, Peni, and Venom’s “Symbiote Bond,” and Rocket Raccoon and The Punisher’s “Ammo Reload” will be completely removed. Fortunately, “Ammo Reload” will still be available for Winter Soldier, which is great news for fans like me who main Bucky. Iron Man will also no longer participate in the “Gamma Charge” Team-Up, leaving it solely to The Hulk and Namor.
Additional updates include an experimental mode launching on June 6 called Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol, where players can create their own hero lineups and build enhancements in a “streamlined, strategic, numerical-based solo tactical” gameplay experience. New hero proficiency avatars will also be added to the selection wheel, along with two personalization options: mood and emoji, allowing players to express themselves on their nameplate and during gameplay.
The new map, Hellfire Gala: Arakko, has been transformed into Ultron’s desolate mechanical lair. Additionally, expect some character buffs, nerfs, and other adjustments.
