TP-Link has introduced an affordable electronic door lock, the Tapo DL100 Smart Deadbolt, as part of its Tapo smart home lineup, now available for $69.99. This entry-level lock provides various unlocking options: a keypad, a physical key, the Tapo mobile app, and voice activation via smart assistants such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings.
Priced approximately $10 less than the Wyze Lock Bolt, which we designated as the top budget smart lock in our buying guide, the Tapo DL100 lacks a fingerprint scanner but includes both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. In contrast, the Wyze option only supports Bluetooth unless paired with a video doorbell from the same brand.
When Wi-Fi is enabled, TP-Link claims the Tapo DL100 can last up to seven months on four AA batteries, extending to ten months with just Bluetooth use. In the event of dead batteries and a lost key, the lock features a USB-C port for temporary power.
For increased security, the Tapo DL100 offers a pin masking feature that allows you to input your access code as part of a longer number string, making it less obvious. Additionally, you can create one-time codes for guests or specific time-sensitive codes for service providers, such as repair technicians.
The smart lock is also integrated with Tapo’s smart doorbell, enabling you to see a live feed of visitors at your door while unlocking it. The accompanying mobile app sends notifications when the door is locked or unlocked and includes detailed access logs, which track individual user codes. Designed with an IP54 weather-resistance rating, the Tapo DL100 can withstand rain and accidental water exposure.
