With the debut of the Nintendo Switch 2 just a week away, Nintendo continues to unveil exciting new features that will ensure a clear distinction from the original Switch. On Tuesday, through the Nintendo Today app, the company announced enhancements to the Nintendo Switch Online platform aimed at making N64 games more immersive and user-friendly.
One of the standout features is the ability to rewind gameplay, allowing players to retry sections whenever they make a mistake, such as misjudging a jump in a platformer or careening off the track in Mario Kart 64—a common struggle for many of us!
Additionally, the Nintendo Today app revealed that players will have access to CRT filters, which will add scan lines to N64 titles. This feature is perfect for those who want to amplify their nostalgia and recreate the look of games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as if it were still 1998.
While these exciting features will be exclusive to the Switch 2, both the original Switch and its successor will allow players to customize control mappings for N64 games. The demonstration showed that control remapping is possible for both Joy-Cons and the Nintendo 64 controller.
