For the first time in 22 years, DC and Marvel Comics are collaborating on a special crossover featuring two iconic characters: Batman and Deadpool. According to Entertainment Weekly, this exciting partnership will consist of two one-shot specials showcasing the Dark Knight and the beloved Merc With a Mouth. DC will publish Batman/Deadpool #1, with a script by Grant Morrison and artwork by Dan Mora. Marvel will follow suit with Deadpool/Batman #1, written by Zeb Wells and illustrated by Greg Capullo.
Each of these stories will also include “backup adventures” featuring various characters from both the Marvel and DC universes, although specific details about these characters remain under wraps. Fans can anticipate the release of Deadpool/Batman #1 on September 17, 2025, followed by Batman/Deadpool #1 in November.
Jim Lee, DC’s president, chief creative officer, and publisher, shared with EW why this crossover is happening for the first time since the JLA/Avengers special in 2003.
“These collaborations occur about once per generation of readers,” Lee noted. “The timing must be just right; you want to create special events rather than overdo it. Coordinating between the two companies requires a lot of effort, including approvals and revenue sharing, so the story must truly deserve the hype it generates.”
Marvel Entertainment president Dan Buckley explained that the choice of Deadpool and Batman was straightforward because they make an entertaining duo.
“To be honest, it was as simple as that,” Buckley stated. “The idea of Deadpool teaming up with Batman promises a lot of humor and excitement, as well as some intense action. Our goal is to create something enjoyable that highlights comics, sparks enthusiasm, and invites new or returning readers into the fold.”
Looking ahead, Buckley and Lee mentioned that the two companies are already collaborating on another crossover one-shot planned for 2026, though the characters involved in that project have not yet been disclosed.
