Unlocking the Phantom Relic: A Guide to Your...

With the release of patch 7.25, the sun shines brightly on the new Dawntrail field operation and its accompanying relic weapon. For players eager to embark on the relic grind, we’ve got you covered with detailed instructions on obtaining the Phantom relic weapon in FFXIV below.

Like previous relics, the Phantom relic is a challenging endeavor, requiring significant gameplay, whether you’re engaging in the Occult Crescent (the Dawntrail field operation) or grinding FATES across the new zones.

In the following sections, we’ll outline what FFXIV relic weapons are and how to commence your journey with the Dawntrail relic weapon.

Relic weapons are distinctive to each job and need to be upgraded through a series of quests. The ultimate goal? To obtain the top-tier weapon in the Dawntrail expansion — though keep in mind that not all upgrade steps are available just yet.

If this is your first time pursuing a relic weapon, brace yourself for a hefty grind ahead. Fortunately, these items are released in patches, allowing you to tackle them as they come to make your journey a bit easier (unless you’re reading this guide years from now and plan to crush the entire process in one go!).

This particular weapon series incorporates the Occult Crescent, the field operation for Dawntrail, but there are alternative methods to complete your weapon if you’re not a fan of field operations.

Step 1: Obtaining Your Phantom Weapon

This initial step was introduced in patch 7.25, with the weapon boasting an item level of 745.

To acquire your first weapon:

Be prepared for numerous critical encounters to secure a single demiatma drop; don’t anticipate receiving one from each encounter you complete. When you do receive a demiatma, a pop-up notification will confirm your success.

As a point of reference, I’ve completed approximately 15 critical encounters so far and have obtained three demiatma at the time of this writing. While the specifics of the grind for additional weapons remain uncertain, we will update this guide as more information becomes available. (I can’t believe I had forgotten how intense the relic grind could be!)
