Apple Expands DIY Repair Program to Include iPads

Apple is broadening its self-service repair program to include various iPad models, such as the mini, Air, and Pro. Starting tomorrow, users will be able to order replacement parts and repair kits specifically designed for these Apple tablets.

The program is primarily focused on the iPad models currently available from Apple, which consist of the A16 iPad, the A17 Pro iPad mini, and the M4 iPad Pro. The M2 iPad Air is the only older model included, alongside the latest M3 versions of the tablet.

Though Apple has yet to provide pricing details for the repair kits and parts, which will consist of displays, batteries, cameras, and charging ports, they will also include rental tool kits for repairs. As a reference, iPhone parts typically range from $69 to $119 for a battery, with display prices between $129 and $379; it’s anticipated that iPad parts may be priced higher.

The Self Service Repair program debuted in 2022, initially covering only iPhones, but has since expanded to encompass select Macs, MacBooks, and the Studio Display. Additionally, Apple has announced that this service will be available in Canada this summer. MobileSentrix will also be introduced as a parts distributor in the U.S. as part of the newly launched Genuine Parts Distributor program, which permits third-party sellers to provide official Apple parts to independent repair businesses.
