CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has announced that the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, informally referred to as Cyberpunk 2, has advanced from the “conceptual phase” to preproduction, as revealed in their earnings report on Wednesday.

Although Cyberpunk 2 isn’t its official title, CDPR’s senior PR manager Ola Sondej clarified to The Verge that “Cyberpunk 2” signifies it as another installment in the Cyberpunk universe. The project has been codenamed “Project Orion” since its announcement in 2022.

While specific details are scarce, CDPR described the game as “the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe” during their report. As of April 30, 96 developers are currently working on the title, as noted in a slide presentation. An official release date has yet to be announced; however, joint CEO Michał Nowakowski stated in an investor call that the company would release the game “in due time.”

In other news, CDPR revealed that the expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, titled Phantom Liberty, has sold over 10 million copies. Additionally, the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which includes both the base game and the expansion, is set to be launched as a title for the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5th.

CDPR recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, noting that the game has surpassed 60 million copies sold.

Update, May 28th: Added new information regarding Cyberpunk 2 from CDPR and an investor call.
