EA Pulls the Plug on Black Panther Game...

Electronic Arts has officially canceled its Black Panther game. As reported by IGN, the announcement was made through an email sent to employees, which also noted the shutdown of Cliffhanger Games as part of this decision.

IGN further reports that this cancellation is accompanied by layoffs in various divisions of EA. Recently, the company implemented a return-to-office policy, mandating employees to work in the office at least three days a week. Earlier this year, EA also conducted a round of layoffs affecting between 300 and 400 employees. The Verge has reached out to EA for additional comments.

However, the cancellation of the game does not eliminate the possibility of a future project featuring a Black Panther storyline. Skydance New Media, led by Amy Hennig, is currently developing Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, which includes both Captain America and Black Panther as playable characters.

Correction, May 28th: An earlier version of this article contained errors regarding the developers’ names. This has been updated for accuracy.
