Cloud Capabilities: The Switch 2 Now Saves...

Yesterday, Nintendo updated its Switch Online mobile app, renaming it to the Nintendo Switch App. This new edition adds support for the upcoming Switch 2, which is set to launch on June 5th. The update brings several new features, originally unveiled in early April, designed to streamline access to screenshots on different devices and introduce mobile notifications for GameChat invitations.

One of the key enhancements is the ability for the Switch 2 to upload screenshots and videos directly to the app via the cloud. The device will feature a new Upload to Smart Device option in its album, allowing users to manually send screenshots, complemented by an automatic upload feature for the 100 latest screenshots and videos, which can be accessed within the app.

According to Nintendo, uploaded files will be kept in the cloud for up to 30 days but can be downloaded to a mobile device’s camera roll for permanent storage. Users should note that if they try to upload more than 100 screenshots or videos, the oldest ones will be automatically replaced. A free Nintendo Account is necessary to utilize this feature, though a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online is not required.

Previously, sharing screenshots from the original Switch was a cumbersome ordeal that involved using a smartphone to scan a QR code and connecting to a temporary Wi-Fi network for wireless transfers. The Nintendo Switch App will also notify users of GameChat call invitations and features Zelda Notes for the Switch 2 versions of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Although this feature is not currently active, it is expected to include achievements and provide spoken directions to marked map locations, as well as access to additional Princess Zelda’s recalled memories.
