Users of Google Workspace can expect to benefit from Gemini’s enhanced email summary capabilities. Gmail will now automatically generate summaries for intricate email threads, which will be displayed above the messages.
While AI-generated email summaries have been available in Google Workspace accounts since last year, users previously had to activate them manually. Now, Google’s AI will autonomously determine when a summary may be beneficial, creating them without requiring input for lengthy email threads or conversations with multiple replies. Furthermore, these summaries will be updated in real-time as new replies arrive.
Initially, the automatic summaries will only be available for English-language emails and will appear on mobile devices. Users can expect to see this feature rolled out over a period of up to two weeks. Google has not provided details on whether or when this feature might be extended to desktop Gmail or to users without paid Workspace accounts.
If Gmail does not automatically produce an AI summary, users still have the option to manually request one, just as they do now. Additionally, if you prefer not to see these summaries, you can disable all of Gmail’s AI capabilities by turning off the “Smart features” option in the app settings.
