Affordable Power: Nvidia's RTX 5060 Ti Launches April 16 at $379

Nvidia is unveiling its RTX 5060 series of GPUs today, just ahead of the April 16th launch of the RTX 5060 Ti. Two versions of the RTX 5060 Ti will be available: one with 8GB of VRAM priced at $379, and another with 16GB of VRAM priced at $429. The RTX 5060, carrying a price tag of $299 and featuring 8GB of VRAM, is slated for release in May.

The RTX 5060 Ti comes with 4,608 CUDA cores, a base clock of 2.4GHz, a boost clock of 2.57GHz, and a 128-bit memory bus with either 8GB or 16GB of GDDR7 memory. Nvidia notes that the 16GB model of the RTX 5060 Ti will be released on April 16th, with the 8GB version expected to follow shortly. On the other hand, the RTX 5060 boasts 3,840 CUDA cores and utilizes a 128-bit memory bus with 8GB of GDDR7 memory.

Both the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 will include support for DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation, which can reach up to 4x, along with PCI Express Gen 5 and DisplayPort 2.1b support. The total graphics power requirement for the RTX 5060 Ti is 180 watts, while the RTX 5060 requires up to 145 watts.

Nvidia is promising impressive frame rates with the RTX 5060 in various games, largely due to Multi Frame Generation. In their tests, Nvidia used a 1080p resolution with max settings and integrated an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU:

– Half-Life 2 RTX – 130fps
– Hogwarts Legacy – 234fps
– Alan Wake II – 114fps
– Black Myth: Wukong – 130fps
– Cyberpunk 2077 – 148fps
– Stalker 2 – 208fps
– Star Wars Outlaws – 105fps
– Marvel Rivals – 330fps
– Avowed – 220fps

While Nvidia emphasizes the benefits of 4x Frame Gen with the new RTX 5060 cards, they also claim that rasterization performance will see a boost. “For games that do not support Multi Frame Gen, you’ll observe a 20-25 percent performance improvement gen over gen on the RTX 5060,” states Justin Walker, Nvidia’s senior director of GeForce product management. “An increase of about 20 percent is expected for the RTX 5060 Ti.”

Nvidia will not be producing Founders Edition variants of the RTX 5060 cards, which may affect the pricing set by its partners. This could make it challenging to find the RTX 5060 at its intended $299 price point, especially considering fluctuations related to tariffs.

Regarding the decision to offer just 8GB of VRAM, Walker notes, “We are trying to optimize price and performance. With a GPU like the RTX 5060, you have to consider trade-offs carefully.”

Nvidia maintains that VRAM size doesn’t significantly impact GPU performance and has focused on price optimization with the RTX 5060 series. Still, it is observed that many games consume substantial memory, affecting 8GB models. “The RTX 2060 was priced at $349 years ago,” Walker adds. “The RTX 3060 was $329, and considering inflation, $299 for a GPU is reasonable.”

In addition to desktop models, the RTX 5060 will also feature in laptops starting May, with prices beginning at $1,099. Brands like Acer, Asus, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, MSI, and Razer will be offering models incorporating Nvidia’s latest RTX 5060 laptop GPUs.
