Step into Reality: 3D Instagram Photos Arrive...

Instagram has announced support for photos featuring a 3:4 aspect ratio. This means that when you upload an image with this ratio, it will display exactly as captured, according to Instagram head Adam Mosseri in a post on Threads. He highlighted that “almost every phone camera defaults to” this format.

A visual shared through Instagram’s broadcast channel illustrates the significance of this update. Users already had the option to upload images with a 4:5 rectangular aspect ratio, but with the new support for 3:4, photos will no longer be cropped at the edges. The 3:4 format is available for both single-photo uploads and carousels, as mentioned by the channel.

Users can still opt to post images in a square format or with a 4:5 aspect ratio if they prefer.

This update follows Instagram’s initiative from January to convert profile grids from squares to rectangles. At that time, Mosseri stated, “Currently, most uploaded content, including photos and videos, is predominantly vertical in orientation.”
