The true identity of Bitcoin’s creator remains one of the biggest enigmas in the cryptocurrency world. Recently, a leading figure in the industry proposed one of the most unconventional theories yet.
In an interview with Turkish influencers, former Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao suggested that perhaps Bitcoin was not created by a human at all.
CZ theorized, “It might be software returning from the future… While it’s hard to grasp right now, it could be a possibility,” implying that Satoshi Nakamoto could possibly be an advanced AI from the future.
Satoshi Nakamoto was an AI from the future.
I was just asked “who I think Satoshi might be” in a live (still ongoing) interview from Turkey. I tweet during meetings all the time. 😆

Insights
CZ acknowledged that he does not know the real identity of Satoshi, but described the time-traveling AI theory as one of the “strangest,” yet conceivable, explanations. He noted that the complete anonymity of Bitcoin’s creator could stem from either a highly skilled individual or an extraordinarily advanced entity.
“Whoever this was, they really concealed their identity. No IPs, no genuine traces,” CZ stated. “That’s quite a challenge.”
A Look Back
Notable individuals such as Hal Finney, Nick Szabo, Adam Back, and Canadian developer Peter Todd have all been suggested as potential candidates. A 2024 HBO documentary even claimed Todd to be Satoshi, a suggestion he vehemently denies, stating that he felt compelled to go into hiding.
CZ took this opportunity to reiterate his confidence in Bitcoin’s future supremacy.
“Bitcoin will surpass gold by a significant margin,” he asserted. “It simply requires time.”
Reality Check
Recently, Bitcoin briefly surpassed silver, Amazon, and Google in market capitalization. However, it still lags far behind gold, with a market cap of $1.88 trillion compared to gold’s $22.1 trillion.
Regardless of whether it was a brilliant mind, a collective, or an AI from the future, the true identity of Satoshi continues to mystify, and major players in the crypto space remain in speculation.
