Craving the Extra Flavor from Rockstar's GTA 6...

Rockstar announced on Friday that the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, expected to be one of the year’s biggest games upon its release, has been postponed to May 26, 2026. However, there’s exciting news as a brand new trailer has also been launched today, and it looks incredibly promising.

The cinematic trailer kicks off with a classic GTA vibe: a ruggedly handsome man with impressive abs is seen working hard in a setting reminiscent of Florida. He drives around, enjoying catchy ’80s tunes on the radio. The trailer skillfully hints at the storyline: the main character picks up his partner from prison, and they dive back into their thrilling, crime-filled lifestyle. It seems the characters, Lucia and Jason, will face highs and lows, with glimpses of Lucia in a construction vest and collapsing onto the couch with Jason after what appears to be a long day of community service. Regardless of their challenges, the chemistry between this animated couple is striking, which is quite an achievement for a cinematic video game trailer.

As our deputy editor Maddy Myers aptly noted in a Slack message, Rockstar has always had a knack for captivating storytelling, but this trailer for GTA 6 stands out as particularly impressive. The enticing music and stunning visuals are hallmarks of the franchise, and the trailer itself is expertly crafted, generating excitement among fans despite the long wait before they can experience the game.

One notable moment in the trailer occurs when Jason meets Lucia. When the prison guard inquires if he has been there before, Jason pauses, responds with a vague “maybe,” and then the scene suddenly shifts to Lucia and Jason greeting each other. Moments later, they are seen rolling around in bed. The trailer swiftly transitions to Lucia donning a ski mask as she and Jason prepare to rob what appears to be a bank, only to cut back to them sharing drinks on a pier and laughing about a past incident where Jason broke Lucia’s nose. Excuse me!? It’s an intriguing mix of passion, danger, and possibly even… true love?

Of course, I hope the nose-breaking incident is portrayed as an accident. If Rockstar chooses to explore themes of domestic violence within its storyline in a post-#MeToo world, it could be problematic, given the franchise’s history of portraying female characters. Nonetheless, Lucia shows potential as a compelling character, and despite any uncertainties about the game’s narrative, there’s no denying that this trailer is a remarkable work of art, full of enticing details to dissect. In the meantime, I’ll be on the lookout for that stunning gold dress in real life.
