Dubai's Mind-Blowing AI Initiative: Accelerating Travel by 30%

Dubai is embracing artificial intelligence, taking it to new heights—quite literally.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has unveiled an ambitious Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2030, aimed at reducing travel times by as much as 30% on city roads. This announcement came during the inaugural Dubai AI Week 2025.

Strategic Overview

The RTA’s strategy features 81 innovative AI-driven projects and initiatives set to be implemented over the next five years. These initiatives include traffic signal optimizations, intelligent pedestrian systems, predictive maintenance, and AI-assisted driver evaluations.

“Our strategy aims to enhance human capital, establish a connected AI ecosystem, and spearhead AI-driven transformations throughout RTA’s services,” stated Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General.

Objectives

  • 20–30% reduction in travel times
  • 25–40% increase in employee productivity
  • 10–20% decrease in operational costs
  • 35% rise in customer satisfaction
  • 30–50% improvement in partner compliance

Dubai is making AI a cornerstone of its transport framework. Through big data analytics and generative AI in its virtual assistant, ‘Mahboub,’ the city is setting the stage for a smarter, faster, and more sustainable traffic system.

This strategy aligns with the UAE’s comprehensive AI 2031 vision and builds upon RTA’s existing data platforms, which already manage 670 terabytes of transport data and cover over 280 data points across 49 systems.

AI in Action

RTA has already successfully integrated AI into more than 40 applications, including:

  • Predictive maintenance for buses
  • Sentiment analysis of passenger feedback
  • Parking demand forecasting
  • Optimizing water and energy usage on the Metro

An additional 45 AI applications are currently under exploration, which include enhancements to Dubai’s public bus system and energy efficiency initiatives.

The AI-enhanced traffic future of Dubai is no longer just a concept—it’s happening now. If successful, your daily commute could soon become shorter, smoother, and smarter.
