In the world of First Steps, everyone knows the story of how Reed (Pedro Pascal), his wife Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), her younger brother Johnny (Joseph Quinn), and their friend Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) acquired superpowers during a space mission. However, not many are aware that the Fantastic Four family is about to expand with Reed and Sue expecting their first child.
The new trailer showcases the Fantastic Four as global celebrities, exuding hope and excitement for the future. But this upbeat atmosphere is shattered when storm clouds gather and a metallic woman on a surfboard (Julia Garner) declares that Earth is marked for destruction by a formidable presence from beyond the stars.
The team appears puzzled about the identity of the Silver Surfer and her ominous message. However, the trailer hints that Reed’s experiments, which push “the bounds of space,” might be linked to her sudden arrival. This element seems likely to play a role in the Fantastic Four’s future appearances in Marvel’s multiversal Avengers: Doomsday. Additionally, the trailer’s imagery of massive shadows and giant footsteps in a city clearly alludes to the looming threat of Galactus.
The trailer also provides our first glimpse of how Reed’s stretching abilities will be portrayed in the film—it’s slightly comical yet more impressive than what most of the Thunderbolts can manage. When Fantastic Four: First Steps releases in theaters on July 25th, it might just be the key to saving the world from annihilation.
