Google has introduced new features to Drive that enhance user experience by providing more insights into saved videos. A new Gemini AI capability, which previously summarized documents and PDFs in Google Drive, is now being extended to video files. This means users can get a glimpse of the video content without needing to watch it in full.
The Gemini feature in Drive utilizes an intuitive chatbot interface to deliver concise summaries of video content or extract specific information. For instance, users can request Gemini to identify action points from recorded meetings or summarize key updates and new product launches from announcement videos, significantly reducing the time spent on manual note-taking.
To utilize this feature, videos must have captions enabled. Users can access the Gemini summaries through Google Drive’s overlay preview or by opening a new tab. This functionality is currently available in English for Google Workspace and Google One AI Premium users, as well as for those who have purchased Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons, though the rollout may take several weeks to complete.
Additionally, Google is removing a feature from Workspace that provided engagement metrics for Drive videos. The Drive video player will now display the number of times a video has been viewed within the Analytics section of the Details panel, allowing users to gauge the performance of their videos.
