Google has launched an extended repair program for the Pixel 7A, offering free repairs for devices affected by “unexpected battery swelling,” according to reports from 9to5Google. This initiative addresses issues characterized by visible signs of battery expansion, such as device bulging or separation of the phone’s cover. Additionally, rapid battery drain may also qualify for coverage under the program.
Google stated that battery replacements are available “at no cost for individual end-user owners.” However, this does not apply to devices with other issues, such as liquid damage or cracks unrelated to the battery swelling. A verification process on the program website is required, and once approved, users will need to either ship their device for repair or visit an authorized service center.
In certain countries (excluding the US and India) where repair options are unavailable, Google is providing monetary compensation instead of repairs. Users of out-of-warranty Pixel 7A devices may receive $200 (converted to local currency), or $300 towards purchasing a new Pixel. For in-warranty devices, a payment of $456 is available.
This is not Google’s first extended repair program. Previously, the company introduced a similar initiative for the Pixel 8 last year to address issues like strange pink vertical lines or screen flickering. Additionally, the Pixel 4 XL received an extra year of coverage for power-related problems.
