This collection showcases designs inspired by four of her notable works: Neighborhood Story, which tells the tale of a young girl aspiring to be a fashion designer; Paradise Kiss, chronicling the journey of a student who becomes a model and mingles with stylish peers; I’m No Angel, a romantic narrative featuring two student council members; and her most famous series, Nana.
Nana is among the best-selling manga series ever, centering around two young women who become roommates upon discovering they share the same name. The story follows one Nana’s pursuit of a music career while the other engages in romantic adventures, highlighting the complexities of their friendship. Launched in 2000, the series is technically still ongoing, although it has been on hiatus since 2009 due to Yazawa’s health challenges.
The t-shirts for Neighborhood Story and Paradise Kiss feature designs based on actual outfits worn by the characters, while the shirts for I’m No Angel and Nana showcase fresh illustrations.
This isn’t Uniqlo’s first venture into celebrating anime and video games, as previous collections have included themes from titles such as Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Capcom, and more.
However, fans will need to be patient for their Yazawa-themed shirts, as the collection is set to launch in July and will be available for purchase on the Uniqlo website.
