Rockstar Games has postponed the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which was initially slated for fall 2025, to the following year. Fans can now mark their calendars for May 26, 2026, when the much-anticipated game is set to launch.
In a statement, Rockstar expressed their regret for the delay: “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The enthusiasm and anticipation for a new Grand Theft Auto has been genuinely humbling for our team. We appreciate your support and patience as we complete the game.
“Our goal with every release has always been to surpass your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no different. We hope you understand that we need this additional time to deliver the high level of quality you expect and deserve.
“We look forward to sharing more details with you soon.”
This announcement isn’t particularly surprising; Rockstar has a history of delaying its projects, which are always ambitious and expansive. For instance, their last significant release, Red Dead Redemption 2, faced three delays. However, as recently as February, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, had been affirming that GTA 6 was still scheduled for a fall release.
