Grand Theft Auto 6 marks the first entirely new entry in the GTA series in over ten years, with soaring expectations to match. The previous installment, Grand Theft Auto 5, has surpassed an astonishing 200 million copies sold since its launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013. The sixth main installment in Rockstar’s long-standing franchise returns players to Vice City, situated in the fictional state of Leonida, where the dual protagonists, Jason and Lucia, are on a quest for a better life.
The second trailer offers a sneak peek into what their lives might entail, beginning with Jason arriving in his car to pick up Lucia from prison. The subsequent scenes raise questions about whether their crime-ridden escapades occurred before Lucia’s time in prison or if she dove straight back into the criminal world upon her release. Given the nature of a GTA game, it’s safe to assume that some mischief is on the horizon.
Set in contemporary times, GTA 6 diverges from the stylized ’80s depiction of Vice City featured in earlier titles. Nevertheless, the trailer pays homage to the past with snippets of nostalgic ’80s music.
