Jony Ive's Next Big Thing: A Sleek AI Companion

Recent updates have emerged regarding the new AI device by Jony Ive and Sam Altman. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared insights on Thursday, suggesting that the device may be larger than Humane’s AI pin, yet maintain a “compact and elegant form factor similar to an iPod Shuffle.”

Kuo noted that one of the primary intended uses is for the device to be worn around the neck. He also indicated that it may not feature a display and will instead rely on integrated cameras and microphones for “environmental detection.” Additionally, the device could connect with smartphones and PCs to utilize their computational and display capabilities.

This information aligns with a report from The Wall Street Journal, which suggests that the device will be aware of a user’s environment and daily life but is unlikely to take the form of smart glasses. On Wednesday, Altman disclosed that OpenAI is acquiring Ive’s AI hardware company, io, for $6.5 billion, which will oversee the design for all of OpenAI’s offerings, including its software. Both Ive and Altman are planning to launch their initial devices in 2026.
