Recent regulatory filings have unveiled the first images of the Asus ROG Ally 2, revealing two distinct versions of the gaming handheld—one of which boasts a dedicated Xbox button.
Two months ago, we reported that Microsoft was collaborating with Asus on an Xbox-branded handheld known as “Project Kennan,” and it appears this is the product. The Xbox variant is a sleek black model of the otherwise similar white ROG Ally 2, featuring a small button in the top-left corner adorned with an engraved Xbox logo. In contrast, the standard ROG version lacks this button, which may be modified or removed entirely in the final production model.
91mobiles discovered listings for the ROG Ally 2 in Indonesian certification documents, while VideoCardz linked these to an FCC filing pertaining to the Wi-Fi module found in both versions. The filed documents include hardware images and disclose some preliminary specifications, revealing a 7-inch, 120Hz LCD display—similar to that of the first generation—with an 8-core, 36W AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme CPU in the Xbox edition, and a less powerful 4-core, 20W processor in the white version.
The design has seen enhancements as well, featuring more contoured controller grips on the edges instead of the original ROG Ally’s bulky, sloped design. This redesign gives the device a slightly thicker appearance, potentially improving comfort during use.
With certification processes already underway, a release seems imminent. Asus typically unveils its new products at Computex, which will start on May 20—just a day after Microsoft’s Build conference kicks off on May 19.
