HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series has officially cast its three lead roles: Dominic McLaughlin will portray the iconic Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton taking on the role of Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
In a news release on Tuesday, executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod expressed their excitement about finally selecting actors for Harry, Hermione, and Ron in this highly anticipated series.
“Following an extensive search conducted by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are thrilled to announce that we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” stated Gardiner and Mylod. “The talent of these three remarkable actors is truly inspiring, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience their chemistry on screen. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the tens of thousands of young people who auditioned; it has been a joy to witness such a wealth of talent.”
These young actors are now part of a larger ensemble cast in this reimagined adaptation of the Harry Potter literary series, which includes Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore.
HBO has stated that the new Harry Potter series will be “a faithful adaptation of the beloved books by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling,” promising that “each season will introduce Harry Potter to new and existing fans.”
In 2023, HBO announced the development of a new Harry Potter television series, envisioning a “decade-long journey” based on Rowling’s seven-book story. The reboot aims to be “crafted with the same epic quality, passion, and attention to detail for which this global franchise is renowned.” Rowling has noted that this live-action adaptation will provide a level of depth and richness that only a long-form television series can offer.
While a release date for HBO’s Harry Potter series has yet to be revealed, it is expected that it will not premiere before the HBO streaming platform Max transitions back to HBO Max.
