Gigantamax Snorlax is the newest Gigantamax Pokémon to appear in Pokémon Go. Given its hefty size, it’s going to be a tough opponent. With its high defensive stats, taking it down won’t be easy. Aim to team up with as many players as possible to boost your chances of coming out victorious.
Gigantamax Snorlax will be featured on Gigantamax Snorlax Max Battle Day, taking place on April 19 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time zone. It will appear approximately every 30 minutes at Power Spots near you.
Below, we highlight the best counters and weaknesses of Gigantamax Snorlax in Pokémon Go, along with general combat tips for this hefty Pokémon.
Gigantamax Snorlax Weakness
As a normal-type Pokémon, Snorlax’s only weakness is to fighting-type moves, so your options for super effective attacks are limited.
Since it’s a normal-type, Snorlax will resist ghost-type moves. Avoid using those as your attackers in this battle.
Best Counters for Gigantamax Snorlax
To inflict the highest damage, bring one of the following attackers:
- Dynamax Machamp with Counter
- Dynamax Passimian with Counter
- Gigantamax Kingler with Metal Claw
- Gigantamax Charizard with Dragon Breath
- Dynamax Falinks with Counter
It’s important to note that the damage per second (DPS) difference between Machamp and the other Pokémon is substantial. If you don’t have the resources to level up a Dynamax Machamp and prefer to save them for the anticipated Gigantamax Machamp, that’s perfectly fine. Consider using any of the other listed options instead.
Currently, a Timed Research set is active until the end of the raid day event, offering rewards of Machop Candy and a Dynamax Machop to help power up Machamp. Remember, trading Machops with friends can lower the cost of evolving Machoke into Machamp (from 100 Machop Candy to zero), easing the candy burden for powering up and evolving.
For defensive tanks, consider bringing one or two of these with a leveled-up Max Guard to absorb damage and charge your gauge:
- Dynamax Blissey with Pound
- Dynamax Chansey with Pound
- Gigantamax/Dynamax Gengar with Shadow Claw
- Gigantamax Lapras with Water Gun
Ensure you have Max Spirit (healing) unlocked for Blissey and Chansey. Snorlax might know Superpower, a fighting-type move challenging for Blissey/Chansey and Lapras, in which case you can use Gengar to charge your meter. Though, Blissey’s high durability might withstand the attacks and heal through them.
The optimal strategy involves utilizing two Blisseys and a Machamp. Let the Blisseys absorb damage and charge the meter, then switch to Machamp to deliver Max Knuckle damage.
If you don’t have these Pokémon leveled up, just bring the strongest Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon you have. If your Gigantamax Toxtricity is maxed out and your Dynamax Machamp isn’t ready, bring your Toxtricity. This battle is challenging due to limited options and the anticipated arrival of Gigantamax Machamp.
General Gigantamax Snorlax Tips
If you’re finding it difficult to win Max Battles, here are some general tips to improve your performance and increase your utility to the team. Gigantamax battles require more strategy than regular raids, so preparation is key.
- Ensure you have enough players. High-efficiency groups with well-invested Pokémon can defeat Snorlax with fewer people, but for those without lots of extra candy and Stardust, gathering as many players as possible is essential for success.
- Don’t underestimate Max Spirit and Max Guard. Having a mix of moves, not just high-damage ones, is crucial. Each player should have Pokémon equipped with defensive and healing moves. Max Guard focuses single-target damage on you, reducing damage taken, while Max Spirit heals the entire party—essential for keeping damage-dealers active.
- Switch to super effective moves when Dynamaxing. A Dynamax Pokémon’s max moves are based on its fast move type. Ensure you have a Pokémon that can deal super effective damage before Dynamaxing.
- Focus on fast moves. Build up your Dynamax meter by using fast moves. Sometimes using your charge move can result in lower DPS compared to continually using your fast moves.
- Level up a few Pokémon, but don’t overdo it. Depending on your group size, maxing out all Dynamax Pokémon to level 40-50 isn’t necessary. Level up as much as you can, but don’t stress if not maxed out.
