Netflix is set to begin testing a TikTok-inspired vertical video feed within its mobile app to enhance discovery of new shows and movies. This trial will kick off in “the coming weeks,” as detailed in a recent blog post.
Users will be able to instantly watch a show or film from the clips provided, add it to their watchlist, or share it with friends. The user interface will feature controls in the bottom-right corner, similar to the design found on TikTok.
“We recognize that swiping through a vertical feed in social media apps offers an effortless way to explore video content,” said Chief Product Officer Eunice Kim during a press briefing. “Our members enjoy browsing through clips and trailers to discover their next favorite.”
This isn’t Netflix’s first foray into a TikTok-style feed; back in 2021, the platform launched a comedy-centric “Fast Laughs” feature and subsequently introduced a “Kids Clips” option for younger viewers. However, this latest test appears to be much more expansive.
