Nintendo Hikes Prices for Switch 2 Accessories in the US

“Nintendo has announced that the prices for Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will be adjusted from what was initially communicated on April 2, due to shifts in market conditions,” the company stated on its website. “Future price adjustments of any Nintendo products are also possible, subject to market conditions.” Polygon has contacted Nintendo for further details on these price changes.

Nintendo initially disclosed the release date and pricing for the console on April 2, with plans to launch pre-orders the following week. However, this plan was abandoned in the U.S. and Canada after U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of broad, global tariffs on imports from China, Vietnam, and other countries. Subsequently, Nintendo announced a delay in pre-orders for U.S. customers. The delay extended to Canada as well. While most of President Trump’s tariffs are currently paused, there is still a significant tariff on Chinese-manufactured goods. Fortunately for Nintendo, a substantial portion of its production was shifted to Vietnam during Trump’s previous administration, and the company has reportedly reserved Vietnamese-manufactured consoles for U.S. consumers.

Certain Nintendo accessories, like the Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case and the Joy-Con 2 charging grip, are produced in China according to their descriptions on the Nintendo store. Other items like the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and Joy-Con 2 controllers are made in Cambodia and Vietnam, respectively. The Chinese-manufactured accessories are affected by Trump’s new 145% tariff, significantly increasing the importation costs of these products.
