After the launch of the V20.0.0 firmware earlier this week, which added features such as Virtual Game Cards, some Nintendo Switch users encountered issues where their consoles could not boot, displaying an error code instead. Nintendo has acknowledged this problem and responded by releasing an update, V20.0.1, this morning that addresses the issue. However, those affected by the error code will need to take additional steps to update their consoles successfully.
The release notes for the V20.0.1 update indicate that it specifically resolves the boot-up issue on affected devices, meaning those without problems from the V20.0.0 installation do not need to perform this update. The documentation states: “Fixed an issue where Error Code: 2206-1015 sometimes occurred when restarting the system after updating to system version 20.0.0.”
To apply the update, users must enter Maintenance Mode, as the 2206-1015 error code may prevent some users from booting their consoles normally and accessing the update via the System Settings menu. Nintendo has provided the following instructions:
If you follow these steps to apply the V20.0.1 update but continue experiencing issues, or encounter a different error code when starting your console, please reach out to Nintendo’s official support channels for further assistance.
