OnePlus' Compact Phone Skips the US, But Its...

Although the latest addition to the OnePlus 13 series is exclusive to India, the accompanying AI features will soon be available to users in the US. The standout feature is Plus Mind, which enables users to conveniently save information in a designated “Mind Space,” eliminating the need for manual entry of critical dates or appointments.

Users can extract schedules, reservations, event details, and other information from images or text, which can then be automatically added to their calendar. This data can be quickly accessed later using OnePlus’s AI search functionality. OnePlus has announced that the new Plus Mind feature will be introduced “later this year,” with the ability to automatically categorize saved information for enhanced organization.

The Plus Mind feature will be first available on the compact OnePlus 13S, set to launch in India on June 5th, which is a variant of the recently released 13T in China. Both devices, which are not available in the US and Europe, will feature the new customizable Plus Key button, replacing OnePlus’s traditional Alert Slider. Similar to the Alert Slider, the Plus Key can switch between normal, mute, and vibrate-only modes, as well as perform additional tasks like launching the camera, recording audio, or translating text.

Plus Mind will also be introduced to the remainder of the OnePlus 13 series through a forthcoming software update, with plans to extend this feature to more devices in the future. Users can activate Plus Mind using the Plus Key button, or by executing an upward three-finger swipe on older devices without this button, such as the OnePlus 13. All OnePlus phones launching this year are expected to include the new Plus Key.

In addition to Plus Mind, OnePlus is working on a range of AI tools, including an AI translation app that integrates text, live voice, camera, and screen translation functionalities, as well as an image-reframing tool that evaluates photos to suggest optimal cropping. An additional AI editing tool set to roll out “this summer” will automatically adjust facial expressions and blinking.

Two features that will initially launch only in India are AI VoiceScribe, which OnePlus claims can “record, summarize, and translate calls and meetings” directly within messaging and meeting apps, and AI Call Assist, which provides live summaries and real-time translation during phone calls. The Verge has contacted OnePlus to inquire about plans for a global rollout of these features but has not yet received a response.
