Opera has enhanced its Android web browser with new tab features that empower users to manage their web links more effectively. According to Opera, version 89 introduces “the best tab management system for Android devices,” which includes new layout options, grouping functionalities, and the ability to search, mute, and restore tabs.
One significant addition is the Tab Islands feature, enabling users to create custom groups of tabs. Users can form these groups by long-pressing a tab and dragging it onto another, or by long-pressing a link to open it in a new tab. These groups can be renamed to help organize tabs by categories, such as shopping or study links.
Users now have the flexibility to choose between carousel, grid, and list layout options for displaying both individual tabs and grouped tabs. The layout can be adjusted easily using the left button on the revamped tab gallery menu. This redesign aims to simplify tab management, making it less overwhelming for users who tend to keep multiple tabs open.
To find a specific tab quickly, users can click on the magnifying glass icon located at the top right of the tab layout page. If an open tab starts playing unwanted audio, the new feature allows users to mute individual tabs, eliminating the need to silence the entire device. Additionally, users can now easily restore recently closed tabs by selecting the “recently closed tabs” option in the tab gallery, enabling them to recover any webpages or tab groups they wish to revisit.
