Parental Controls: Customize Your Child's...

The Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app has been updated in anticipation of the Switch 2’s launch on June 5th. This update introduces support for the new console and enhances options for parents to manage and restrict their child’s access to the Switch 2’s GameChat feature, while also offering more insights into the games their kids have been playing.

With parental control settings enabled, players under the age of 16 can only use GameChat with friends approved by their parents or guardians, as stated on a Nintendo support page. Additionally, parents can use the app to add notes about their child’s friends for easy reference and receive a comprehensive history of their child’s GameChat interactions, including duration.

Nintendo is also implementing strict measures regarding the use of GameChat’s video feature and camera. Each time younger players want to initiate a video chat, they must obtain permission from a parent or guardian to ensure compliance with family rules regarding video sharing. When a player under 16 attempts to start a video chat, a request will be sent to the parental controls app that requires approval before the chat can commence.

Earlier this week, Nintendo also rolled out updates to its Nintendo Switch App in preparation for the upcoming console. These updates make it simpler to upload screenshots and videos to mobile devices and enhance functionalities for the Switch 2 versions of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
