Polaroid's Smart Snap: Capture Perfect Shots with Real-Time Exposure and Focus Alerts

The Polaroid Flip camera is designed to avoid any surprises when your instant photos develop. It features a new scene analysis function that alerts you if your shot is overexposed, underexposed, or has potential focus issues, all through an unmistakable red LED warning light in the viewfinder.

You can purchase the camera for $199.99 from Polaroid’s online store starting April 29th, or from other retailers starting May 13th. If you can’t wait, you can become a Polaroid member by setting up a free account on their website, allowing you to buy the camera immediately.

The Polaroid Flip revives a folding design from the early ‘80s. Its powerful flash folds down to safeguard the lens and block the shutter button when not in use. It provides enough light to brighten subjects over 14 feet away, and its brightness can be adjusted to suit subjects that are closer.

Equipped with autofocus via a sonar sensor, the Flip differs from the more expensive Polaroid I-2—which costs $599.99—in that it doesn’t have a continuous focus system. Instead, it utilizes four fixed lenses, each optimal at different distances (0.65, 0.85, 1.2, and 2.5 meters), which can be rotated into position based on the sonar’s readings.

Compatible with Polaroid i-Type and 600 instant film, the camera includes a rechargeable battery that charges via USB-C. It can connect to the Polaroid mobile app over Bluetooth, which isn’t required but offers extra features like full exposure control, a self-timer, and double exposure shooting options.
