Some of the greatest ideas in history appear obvious once we look back: the combination of peanut butter and chocolate; establishing a global trade network to foster economic interdependence that reduces the likelihood of war; or envisioning a Predator film where the alien hunter takes on the role of the hero rather than the antagonist.
Once confined to the “Predator extended universe,” the notion fans have long desired is finally becoming a reality: Predator: Badlands. As revealed in the latest trailer, this installment will offer a glimpse into the predator’s perspective. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, known for the previous standalone Predator film, Prey, and the highly underrated 10 Cloverfield Lane, Badlands is set to make waves.
The trailer features a young outcast predator named Dek, who has been exiled from his clan. Fortunately, he finds an ally in a human-like character, played by Elle Fanning. Together, they embark on a mission to confront something that is deemed “unkillable.”
20th Century Studios plans to release the film in theaters and IMAX on November 7. However, devoted fans won’t have to wait long for more content. Trachtenberg is also working on Predator: Killer of Killers, an adult animated anthology film scheduled for release on Hulu on June 6. For those seeking something unique, I recommend Ander Monson’s Predator: A Memoir, a Movie, an Obsession, a 146-page exploration of experimental non-fiction that’s sure to captivate.
