This morning’s Nintendo Direct for Mario Kart World unveiled exciting new character outfits, courses, and items. Additionally, two innovative features for players during races were introduced: charge jump and rewind.
To perform a charge jump, players must hold down the drift buttons when on straight sections of the track. By releasing the button, your character will leap into the air, clearing cars and other obstacles. This maneuver not only includes a trick but also provides a brief speed boost upon landing, making it essential for gaining an advantage. It’s also an effective way to avoid incoming attacks, so mastering the jump will be important.
In free roam or solo races, players now have the option to rewind, allowing them to backtrack their kart’s position. While not particularly useful for advancing in races, this feature is helpful for practicing challenging jumps and shortcuts. However, it’s important to note that rewinding only affects your kart, not the competition’s, so excessive use may result in losing your lead.
With a strong emphasis on the "open world" concept in Mario Kart World, it’s no surprise that Nintendo is introducing innovative methods for navigation and skill development. This iteration of Mario Kart seems poised to challenge your track knowledge and abilities as you compete against more adept players.
Mario Kart World is set to release on June 5, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
