Anthropic has announced the addition of Reed Hastings, the co-founder, chairman, and former CEO of Netflix, to its board of directors.
According to Anthropic, “Hastings brings a wealth of experience from establishing and growing Netflix into a global entertainment giant, as well as his tenure on the boards of renowned companies like Facebook, Microsoft, and Bloomberg.”
The company also noted that “because he has successfully built Netflix into a worldwide platform and has heavily invested in educational reform and digital infrastructure across emerging markets, he possesses a unique perspective on ensuring technology meets wider societal objectives from its inception.”
In a statement, Hastings expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “While Anthropic is very hopeful about the potential benefits of AI for humanity, it also recognizes the economic, social, and safety challenges involved. I’m joining Anthropic’s board because I support their vision for AI development and want to contribute to humanity’s advancement.”
Anthropic’s board also features Dario Amodei as CEO, Daniela Amodei as President, alongside Yasmin Razavi and Jay Kreps. The company has recently launched its Claude 4 AI models.
Hastings stepped down from his role as co-CEO of Netflix in 2023.
