Recent weeks have been quite challenging for Strategist players in Marvel Rivals. Healing is already a tough task, but it becomes even more daunting when a Spider-Man player drops in from above to deliver an uppercut, sending you back to spawn. In a game where the fastest heroes are also the most powerful, Strategist players are putting in extra effort just to stay alive. Fortunately, the upcoming mid-season patch might bring some relief.
In a recent Dev Talk, NetEase addressed the ongoing support issues that have emerged since the beginning of season 2. Heroes with high mobility, such as Iron Fist, are dominating this season, forcing Strategists to “face increased pressure, needing to closely monitor teammates’ health while effectively utilizing their abilities and being wary of their map positioning,” as noted by NetEase.
To alleviate the strain on support characters, NetEase plans to buff their damage “to raise their threat levels, thereby expanding team composition options.” Additionally, characters like Groot and Captain America will be easier to defeat, and everyone’s least favorite Spider-Man move, the uppercut, will become more difficult to execute.
The patch is anticipated to release in early May and will include Ultron as a new character. According to footage from an official video, he will be categorized as a Strategist.
Considering the frequency with which NetEase is introducing new heroes into the game, timely patches like these are critical for maintaining balance. NetEase aims to be “cautious” about making drastic changes, opting for smaller adjustments before taking any significant leaps. Empowering support players to push back against attackers is a promising first step that shouldn’t detract from the fun for heroes designed to hunt them down.
