With just a week remaining until the debut of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo continues to unveil exciting new features that will distinguish it from the original model. Through the Nintendo Today app, the company announced enhancements to the Nintendo Switch Online platform that will bring a blend of nostalgia and modern gameplay to its N64 titles.
Among the standout features is the rewind functionality, allowing players to backtrack and restart sections of their gameplay. This addition is particularly beneficial for moments of miscalculation, such as mistimed jumps in platformers or those frustrating moments in Mario Kart 64 when you accidentally veer off track (a common pitfall for many!).
Additionally, the Nintendo Today app announced the introduction of CRT filters that will add retro scan lines to N64 games. This feature is perfect for players wanting to amplify the nostalgia factor, allowing classics like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to achieve a charmingly outdated look.
While these features will be exclusive to the Switch 2, both the original Switch and its successor will benefit from the ability to remap controls for N64 games. A recent video showcased that remapping will be available for both Joy-Cons and the Nintendo 64 controller.
