The recent $350 million acquisition will place Masimo alongside major brands like JBL, Harman Kardon, Arcam, AKG, Mark Levinson, and Revel, all of which became part of Samsung’s portfolio following its $8 billion purchase of Harman in 2016. The Masimo deal is anticipated to be finalized by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.
“Securing the right future for this business has been a top priority for the new Board since the beginning, and this deal marks a significant step forward,” remarked Quentin Koffey, vice chairman of Masimo. Notably, Masimo is the global medical technology firm that previously filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple regarding the pulse oximetry technology in the Apple Watch.
In its announcement, Samsung stated that it aims to reinforce its position as the leading player in the consumer audio sector by integrating the businesses of Harman and Masimo. This strategy also includes leveraging professional audio technologies from brands like Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, and Marantz for Samsung’s products, such as smartphones, wireless earbuds, headphones, TVs, and soundbars, in addition to enhancing its automotive audio offerings with brands like Bowers & Wilkins.
“Harman takes pride in its growth as a top-tier audio company over its 75-year history, and we believe that acquiring another premium audio brand, Bowers & Wilkins, will further establish Harman as a major player in the audio industry,” stated Dave Rogers, president of Harman’s lifestyle business unit.
