Sonos and Ikea Bid Farewell to Their...

After several years of collaboration, Sonos and Ikea have officially concluded their partnership on the “Symfonisk” product line, which includes innovative items such as lamp speakers, bookshelf speakers, and picture frame speakers. Sonos confirmed to The Verge on Tuesday that existing Symfonisk inventory will globally be phased out from all Ikea stores, with no plans for future devices. Current products will still receive software updates.

“We’ve enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with Ikea over the past eight years and take pride in our achievements,” said Sonos spokesperson Erin Pategas in an email. “While our joint efforts have largely come to an end and no new products will be introduced as partners, we are committed to supporting every existing Symfonisk product, ensuring that customers can enjoy exceptional sound in their homes for many more years.”

The Symfonisk devices seamlessly integrate into Sonos’ whole-home audio system, typically offered at more affordable prices compared to Sonos’ own hardware. If you’re considering a purchase, now is an ideal time to secure any remaining stock.

This announcement comes just as Sonos is set to report its latest quarterly earnings on Wednesday, which will provide insight into the potential impact of US tariffs on the company’s business operations.

Last month, Sonos lowered the price of two products—its entry-level Era 100 speaker and Ray soundbar—in an effort to stimulate demand amid a downturn. Shortly after, Sonos indicated that it was closely monitoring the ongoing developments regarding proposed tariffs and assessing their potential implications for the business, customers, and supply chain. Thus far, the company’s prices have remained stable at their pre-tariff MSRP.

The Symfonisk speakers have gained popularity as home theater surround options for Sonos soundbars; their lamp and picture frame designs integrate more seamlessly into home decor compared to traditional speakers. Additionally, they serve as budget-friendly gateways into the broader Sonos ecosystem. In terms of sound quality, the bookshelf speaker has historically performed well against models like the Sonos One/Play:1, although it has been outclassed by newer offerings such as the Era 100 and Move 2.

Sonos is also focused on enhancing its mobile software experience after launching a revamped app last May that faced multiple issues, negatively impacting the brand’s reputation. Interim CEO Tom Conrad has emphasized that refining the core user experience is the company’s highest priority.
