The Star Wars universe, which has expanded into LEGOs, animation, The Muppet Show, and even figure skating, may be exploring a new frontier: horror. According to Andor creator Tony Gilroy, in comments to Business Insider, Lucasfilm and Disney might be working on a horror-themed project.

Fortnite Introduces Force Abilities In Latest Star Wars Collab

Gilroy shared limited details on this potential Star Wars horror project, mentioning uncertainty about whether it will be a film or TV show. “They’re doing that. I think they’re doing that. I think that’s in the works,” he said, which suggests he might not have full confirmation on the project, or possibly realized he might be revealing a Disney secret.

Regardless, Star Wars has long incorporated horror elements. Darth Vader’s Force choke is reminiscent of horror villains; Anakin Skywalker’s off-screen massacre of young Jedi is chilling; and the 2009 horror novel Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber imagines a virus outbreak leading to a zombie apocalypse. An adaptation of this novel, especially directed by someone like Jordan Peele, seems inevitable.

This revelation is likely to both excite and divide Star Wars fans, balancing those who welcome new developments with those who cherish the traditional space-opera theme. Either way, Gilroy has sparked conversation, and only time will tell if this concept comes to life.
