SpaceX is now providing 12-month residential service plans that reduce the cost of the dish and router—usually priced at $349 in the US—to $0 in certain regions, without raising the monthly fee. Customers have a 30-day window to test or return the kit for a full refund; however, it’s important to pay attention to the fine print after this period.
For instance, if you change your service address or cancel the service, you will incur a change fee equivalent to the hardware cost, prorated over time. Additionally, some customers might face a one-time “demand surcharge” of around $100 in regions where SpaceX experiences high demand.
Despite this, the offer could be attractive for many. For example, in the Netherlands, the Standard Kit typically costs €349 under the regular Residential plan at €50 per month. The new 12-month commitment plan allows customers to acquire the hardware at no cost while maintaining the same monthly fee. The change fee is set at €349. It seems that SpaceX has calculated that by lowering the entry barrier, they can increase their monthly subscriber base enough to compensate for the hardware costs.
The 12-month residential plan has been subtly advertised in various countries over the past month, but it is now being promoted globally by Starlink. It is available in select markets in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as across most European countries. In Croatia, the plan is applicable only to the smaller and slower Starlink Mini kit.
